History of the Zia
The traditional sun symbol originated from the Zia people, descendants of the Ancestral Pueblo people of the Four Corners region in the Southwestern United States.

The number four is sacred to the Zia people and it is embodied in the earth, in the year, in the day, and in life itself.
A note on appropriation:
Since 1925, when New Mexico adopted the Zia for use on the state flag to represent its rich Native American Pueblo culture, the symbol has been free of trademark under the Lanham Act and may be used in the public domain. Zia Innovation recognizes and respects the sacred nature of the Zia symbol to Zia Pueblo and its people.
With founding ties to both New Mexico and Native American ancestry, Zia Innovation has created a social enterprise model based on the number four found within the sun symbol as well as a wholly unique and independent logo that builds on its elements along with the seed of innovation: ideas.

The number four is central to existence of Zia Innovation and is embodied in how we do business on a daily basis as well as how we contribute to and show gratitude towards the communities in which we operate.
